Graffiti Bridge

Graffiti Bridge | Acrylic on Daler Rowney Mixed-Media Paper | 40 x 29cm | Aug 2024

Welcome to the captivating world of abstract art where the ordinary is transformed into something extraordinary. These images delve into a painting practice that unravels the mysterious beauty lurking beneath a bridge near the River Tone in Taunton. The layers of colours, forms, and scratched marks tell a story of unseen contributors who have left their artistic imprints and marks on the urban environment.

These unknown narrators have left their scratched graffiti, making their mark, like any person may do somewhere in the world. The rugged charm of these marks, often overlooked by the passersby, inspires to capture the artistry in paint on mixed-media paper or canvas. What emerges are forms of landscape painting that seeks to encapsulate the ever-evolving nature of urban art by unknown hands.

The abstraction from reality finds liberation from the constraints of traditional landscape painting. The scratched mark (graffiti), once dismissed as mere vandalism, serves as a muse for my artistic exploration, as colours meld and clash, forming emerging narratives that celebrate the spontaneity and impermanence of urban art.

Graffiti Bridge is a testament to human expression, a visual symphony that seeks to resonate with those willing to listen.
