One Touch of Nature
£195 (Incl postage and packing)
Journey Around Rowbarton | Pen, Pencil and Colour Pencil on Cartridge Paper | 54.9 x 42.8cm | 2024 | Adam Grose
'One touch of nature makes the whole world kin'
The title is lifted from a speech by Ulysses, in that he speaks of the readiness of [hu]mankind's capacity to forget past benefits, and to [only] prize the glitter of a specious [superficial] present, rather than the true gold of that which has gone by.
'One touch of nature makes the whole world kin,
That all with one consent praise new-born gawds,
Though they are made and moulded of things past,
And give to dust that is a little gilt,
More laud than gilt o'er-dusted.
The present eye praises the present object.'
(Troilus and Cressida, Act 3, Scene 3)

Journey to Bristol

Journey to Bristol | Acrylic on Mixed Media Paper | 39.3 x 27cm | 2023 | Adam Grose
Journey to Bristol weaves together scenes and explorations that capture thoughts and memories associated with landscape painting and travelling. This painting has evolved over time, becoming a visual echo of journeys to Bristol by road and rail, based on observation, memory, sound, emotion, and pattern.
Erasing and peeling back layers of paint exposes the previous histories, forming juxtapositions of glimpses and movements, exposing various interactions of line, colour, form and shape, revealing a mosaic of architectural constructivism and playful melodies of colour.
These invite the viewer to explore the delicate balance between artistic intention and the serendipity of chance.
Landscape
£495 (Incl postage and packing)
This is a painting of the landscape using a variety of method to paint and draw using a variety of tools to apply the paint. The images seeks to capture what we can see in the landscape, both within the non-urban and urban environments, observing overgrowing foliage on fences, buildings that are worn with paint flaking off window frames and doors, worn walls, bits of things seen as we speed by whilst we are in a train, car or cycling along a country road.
This is a series of acrylic paintings exploring landscape painting using both elements of chance, the accident and direction. The acrylics being used is heavy body Liquitex, so it has a strong, professional quality to each layer as they are applied to the surface of the mixed media paper.

Alhambra
£200.00 (Incl postage and packing)
This drawing explores a journey taken around the wonderful complex of Alhambra in Granada, Spain.
The drawing was created in response to forming ideas that contributed to the production of an installation mural created at Malaca Instituto Spanish Language School, where I was employed to interior design one of the student rooms (Room 521), over a period of three months.
The image is composed of layered views seen in the complex, bringing together the various architectural elements into one painting as I walked around, creating an image o f the journey. This is one of a series of drawings exploring my time in Malaga and Andalucía.

The Girl With The Pink Jar
£200.00 (Incl postage and packing)
This painting explores the image of a child worker from an old photograph circa late C19th to early C20th.
I was drawn to the image through my current research on Lost Generations including the era of slavery, child working and indentured servitude in regards to the UK and Somerset.
This is research exploring the role of the South West and the families who owned plantations in Jamaica and Virginia, growing tobacco and sugar.

And The Rains Come
£337.00 (Incl postage and packing)
This painting is of a landscape created in-situ on the outskirts of Taunton looking towards the Blackdown Hills and the Quantocks, creating an image which blends the views together. During the process of creating this landscape, the rain came and assisted in helping to create this painting made with Quink ink, with the rainwater carrying the ink down the paper, blending the ink as the water soaked the surface.

Layered Journeys
£200.00 (Incl postage and packing)
This small oil painting is composed of layered journeys taken around Somerset, Spain, Cyprus and from a variety of paintings from past Masters and Mistresses of painting.
The painting explores the varied journeys a person takes, recording their journey through life as paintings/ documents/ memory - here I have brought the many together, forming a painting that encompasses the fractured experience, seeking solace in the landscape to reform and bring composure.
I imagine this painting as an allegory influenced by the current troubles experienced by Europe and the UK as a result of Brexit, incorporating my own personal journeys in Europe, my local landscape and the influences from artists like JMW Turner and others who also seek the landscape as an influence for their work.

Break on Through
£700.00 (Incl postage and packing)
This painting explores the portrait of a child soldier in Africa and becomes a symbol of those forced to or have no opportunity to escape drafting into a militia army or are kidnapped to become indoctrinated into fighting a war they do not want any part of.
The title of the painting is inspired from The Doors song 'Break on Through' and the painting was entered previously into the ING Discerning Eye painting competition and exhibition and was chosen by David Remfrey RA and exhibited online during Nov - Dec 2020.
The painting is made up of a variety of portraits that have been painted on top of one another, built up over a period of years, until a final layer of grey was added and left for one year, before rubbing through the layers of paint to gradually bring the various portraits together to form one portait made of many.

Watchet Rock
£295.00 (Incl postage and packing)
Watchet Rock can be found on West Beach in Watchet when the tide is out. I like to imagine many centuries ago Samuel Taylor Coleridge once sat near this rock during walks along the coast, thinking about The Mariner. It is a rock of contemplation and meditation.
The painting was originally painted in 2017, however, I was not entirely happy with it so I returned to the painting in April 2022 and re-painted the rock and the surrounding landscape, building on top of what was previous there, which can be seen in the limited prints of the work I produced.
I return to every couple of years to paint and draw this rock, exploring it and discovering new colours, forms and shapes from this amazing piece of rock.
Walk The Line
£895 (Incl postage and packing)
Through a series of layers and colours, each layer interacts with the previous and the next. These forms evolve through time, allowing resonances of colour and line to play with one another, complimenting and contrasting with one another.
These form a series of small artworks inspired by forms seen in history, technology, African textiles, clan ownership, slavery, indentured servitude, texture, entropy, geometric designs seen in cave art, ancient building design and sacred geometrical designs used for meditative practices.
